Permanent Residency & Citizenship Program

The Bulgaria PR & Citizenship Program allows an applicant to obtain a lifelong permanent residence in 4-6 months, entitling him to free movement throughout the 26 Schengen member countries in Europe. Applicants can apply for citizenship after holding permanent residence (PR) for five years.

  • Bulgaria is a Balkan nation. It is located in southeastern Europe, bordering Romania, Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia, Greece, and Turkey.
  • The country has a population of 7.3 million people, approximately 18% of whom live in the capital city of Sofia (1.3 million).
  • Bulgaria has a temperate continental climate, with hot summers (27°C) and snowfall in winter (-4°C).
  • The official language is Bulgarian, and a large percentage of the population also speaks English, German, or French.
  • Bulgaria is part of the European Union, but not part of the Eurozone. The currency is the Lev (BGN), which is tied to the euro (€): 1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN. The GDP in 2015 was USD $18,501 per capita, with a growth of 3.9%.

Application criteria:

  • The applicant must possess a valid passport and reside legally in any country.
  • The principal applicant must be a minimum age of 18 years (no maximum age).
  • The applicant must provide a declaration explaining the source/origin of invested funds.
  • The applicant must pass a medical and security background check.
  • Visit Bulgaria four times, for 2-4 days (but no further in-country residence requirement).
  • The applicant must make a one-time payment of €155,000 non-refundable (a financed package that replaces the minimum 5-year investment of €512,000 in bonds).

  • Bulgaria has one of the lowest tax rates in the European Union and a free-trade environment.
  • No Bulgarian income tax if the PR holder resides outside Bulgaria.
  • Bulgaria allows dual/multiple citizenship.
  • Citizenship is transferable by descent, so is transferred to all children and grandchildren regardless of age, marital status, or family size (including adopted children).
  • Citizens have visa-free access to approximately 142 countries and territories, including Canada and Europe.

Citizenship Requirements:

After having PR status for 5 years, the applicant may submit a citizenship application to the Government of Bulgaria

  • The applicant must attend an interview for citizenship at any Bulgarian embassy worldwide (or within Bulgaria).
  • The Government will conduct another due diligence check.
  • The applicant undergoes a medical check by a doctor in his country of residence.
  • Once the principal applicant receives citizenship, he may apply for the children’s citizenship by descent (including adopted children) right away.
